7.5.14

Who: Rob & I along with Jamie
What: A little last minute exploring of the island before we had to leave
Where: Beaver Island, Michigan
Captured: Canon Powershot

We found Feodor Protar's grave, although really this spot only marks his place of death (after a train derailment), his body was transported to Grand Rapids for burial. Protar was a recluse who came to the island to undertake a spiritual quest. He lived in a cabin on old Slopetown Road & provided medical services to those who couldn't afford, or get to the doctor in St James.

We found the site of The Stone Circle too! Archeologists currently debate the history & significance of these stones. The site was massive, but very difficult to see due to all the growth around the rocks.

The views here are obviously incredible ^^. I wish we could have stayed longer.

This sign ^^ was very misleading. There was no beer to be found anywhere around...

Let me just tell you, this ^^ was phenomenal.  What a great way to wash away the memories of that tiny plane than to have this as your view!!!

5.31.14

Who: Ashley & I
What: Beach day!!!
Where: San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
Captured: Canon Powershot

This beach was absolutely stunning, and we had it almost entirely to ourselves! ^^ You can see we were there literally all day, which was surprisingly wonderful (coming from a girl who doesn't much love the beach).

We ended the day relaxing, drinking Tona and watching all the professional surfers. Not a bad way to round out the day.

Ashley wandered down to feel the water ^^

We both decided we were hungry ^^

So we ate and watched the sun set over Jesus on the hill ^^

1.11.14

Who: Rob & I
What: Lighthouse exploration
Where: South Haven Pierhead, South Haven, Michigan*
Captured: Canon EOS50

*It was incredible to see the sand and snow piled up so high. It looked like the lighthouse was in the desert. The pier was so slick with ice and the winds were so fierce that we didn't dare go out any further than we did for these photos. I only wish we could have visited a week or so earlier, when the ice was more prominent on the actual light itself. I suppose there is always next year!
