8.21.14

Who: Rob & I along with Bruce
What: A lighthouse adventure
Where: Seul Choix Point Lighthouse, near Manistique, Michigan
Captured: Canon EOS50

This light ^^ funny enough is the one on the cover of my lighthouse book (that thing has seen us through many trips around the great lakes! So you can guess I was pretty excited when I was looking up this light after we saw it only to discover it was on the cover!

Doing a little foraging of course ^^

7.5.14

Who: Rob & I along with Jamie
What: A little last minute exploring of the island before we had to leave
Where: Beaver Island, Michigan
Captured: Canon Powershot

We found Feodor Protar's grave, although really this spot only marks his place of death (after a train derailment), his body was transported to Grand Rapids for burial. Protar was a recluse who came to the island to undertake a spiritual quest. He lived in a cabin on old Slopetown Road & provided medical services to those who couldn't afford, or get to the doctor in St James.

We found the site of The Stone Circle too! Archeologists currently debate the history & significance of these stones. The site was massive, but very difficult to see due to all the growth around the rocks.

The views here are obviously incredible ^^. I wish we could have stayed longer.

This sign ^^ was very misleading. There was no beer to be found anywhere around...

7.4.14.Part IV

Who: Rob & I along with Jamie & Chelsi (& their family!)
What: Exploring Beaver Island Head Light
Where: Beaver Island, Michigan
Captured: Canon Powershot

So as our journey around the island continued I made it known that my only desire was to see the Beaver Island Head Light. It is of course on the opposite end of the island as the Harbor Light and everything else it seems. If you have been following along for a while you might know that Rob & I have already seen this light. We were here four years ago for Chelsi & Jamie's wedding! Rob & I rented a teal GeoTracker from in town (they had every color of the rainbow to choose from) after we got off the boat & took a tour of the island.

Of course we climbed the tower again, I mean, why not??

Still decked out in our fourth of July gear ^^ haha!

7.4.14.Part III

Who: Rob & I along with Jamie & Chelsi (& their family!)
What: Boodlin
Where: Beaver Island, Michigan
Captured: Canon Powershot (thank goodness for this little camera, it has saved my life so many times when I have either forgotten/chosen not to bring along my other camera, or of course when I let the battery die & forget my charger, oops!)

We did a tour of the island all packed in a van. It was an awesome way to spend the day.

We saw the big rock again ^^
And the big tree ^^ to cap it all off.

7.4.14.Part II

Who: Rob & I along with our friends Jamie & Chelsi (& their family!)
What: Re-starting our day after a quick nap (I mean, we were up pretty early to see the lighthouse & we had a feeling it might be a long day)
Where: Beaver Island, Michigan
Captured: Canon EOS50 & Powershot (as I have stated again & again, it just wouldn't be a true vacation if our battery didn't die & I didn't bring the charger, haha!)

I opted out of the bike ride ^^ so I could chill a bit with Chelsi & Micah (and I mean, really also so I could you know, relax, on vacation haha)!

Next we rode downtown for the parade! This thing was awesome, & I am hoping we can be in it next year. It sounds like the rules for entry are pretty loose & how much fun would that be! I haven't been in a parade since high school!

Oh hey Whiskey Point! ^^

We had perfect weather for the parade (which is amazing, because it rained all day the day after). And look, planes! ^^

A billion thanks to these two awesome people ^^ for hosting us. We had such a blast!

There was a full band playing on this float ^^ and obviously I was loving it.

7.4.14

Who: Rob & I
What: Waking up at the crack of dawn to see the sunrise on Beaver Island Harbor Light aka Whiskey Point (Which is really the greatest name for a lighthouse, amiright)?
Where: Beaver Island, Michigan
Captured: Canon EOS50

For those of you who know us personally or have been following along for a while, you know this is not the first time we have been to Beaver Island, & you can bet I dragged Rob along with me to see both lighthouses when we were here 4 years ago too. Well since we were last here this lighthouse got a facelift! A fresh coat of white paint has this bad boy looking good as new. And to be quite honest, as much as I love it with a fresh coat of paint I did find myself longing for the way it looked last time. Perhaps that was just nostalgia talking. Haha.

Well worth our early morning rising (even after a night of not much sleep!) to see the sun come up here. The colors were beautiful and since no one else is crazy to get up so early to hang out near a lighthouse, it was amazingly peaceful. Not a single soul to disturb us. Also, what better way to kick off our fourth of July??
